COVID-19 Testing Workflow

When a COVID-19 sample is taken from a patient, the back of the throat and upper nasal passage is swabbed. This swab is placed in a tube containing viral transport media (VTM) where it stays until reaching the testing laboratory. The creation of COVID-19 test tubes involves the filling of many tubes with VTM. Gilson has a variety of solutions for this task to increase throughput and save on manual labor, time, and costs.

Fraction Collector

The FC 204 Fraction Collector is a compact, large-bed fraction collector with a large capacity capable of handling test tubes, vials, and up to eight shallow or deep well microplates. Fractions can be collected by drop, peak, or time, and the collector can be used with any HPLC system.

Dry Baths

The Digital Dry Bath Series offers convenient digital temperature and time controls with built-in calibration functionality, improving the reliability and reproducibility of your reactions without external thermometers or timers. The Digital Dry Bath Series provides a temperature range of +5°C to 150°C that is adjustable in 0.1°C increments. The timer can be set for up to 999 minutes.

Prior to RNA extraction, the sample is exposed to either heat or lysis buffer in order to inactivate the virus. Gilson has a range of devices such as dry heating baths for this task, in addition to a plethora of liquid handling tools and automation for the purpose of adding buffers.

PIPETMAX® Custom Magnetic Bead Separator Rack

The custom magnetic bead separator rack for PIPETMAX contains 24 magnets which can be raised or lowered to be in close contact with a 96-well plate. Each magnet is positioned between four wells, pulling the magnetic beads to the corner of each well.
